Day 155

They have a saying in Germany that the car is the second child. However, if the car is the second, then the dog must be the first. While it is true that police cars are BMWs and taxis are Mercedes, dogs are definitely the favorite.

Dogs are allowed everywhere, in cafés, shops, restaurants and you can buy a special ticket to have your dog accompany you on the train. At the grocery stores, where dogs are not allowed, there are dedicated plates für hunde where you can tie them up to wait patiently for you.

But don’t think that these are normal, ordinary dogs. They are pedigreed, well behaved and follow their owners around without leashes and without even glancing at distractions. In the restaurants they will lie down quietly beneath the table and not pace around begging for food. Some restaurants even have water bowls at the entrance to quench the thirst of their four legged customers.
